Fix Blocked Toilet

If you have a blocked toilet, you may be able to remedy the problem yourself with a little DIY. Here are some simple fixes you could try:

  • You can try dislodging any objects causing the blockage by inserting a long, flexible tube in the toilet, feeding it down the pipe
  • Repeatedly plunge the toilet, making sure that you get a good seal. Do this with a little water in the bowl to unblock the toilet.
  • Pour a packet of baking soda into the toilet bowl. Then slowly add a bottle of vinegar and leave for a while. Next, pour a bucket of hot water into the bowl. Hopefully, this will dissolve and clear away your blockage.

If these DIY techniques fail, call Melbourne First Choice Plumbing on 1300 001 775 and we’ll be able to pinpoint the problem and unblock you toilet in not time

What Causes A Blocked Toilet

Here’s 7 points to consider why a toilet might be clogged;

  1. Too much toilet paper – this is a common reason why toilets get blocked
  2. Low flush toilets – while being a great way to reduce water bills, these type of toilets have issues with low water pressure
  3. Too little water in the tank – pressure must be applied to waste for it to make its way out of the toilet.
  4. Other blockages – other water carrying lines into drains could be causing issues the affect the entire system. A blockage with the washing machine might cause issues with the toilet being clogged.
  5. Foreign objects – children can be fascinating to toddlers and small children. Toys and other objects placed in toilets is a common cause of a blocked toilet. Toilets are designed to dispose of waste and toilet paper only.
  6. Old pipework – Collapsing pipes can cause a toilet to block. Slow draining of your toilet or other drains in your house may be signs of a bigger problem.
  7. Septic tank slow or full – if your septic tank is full or not turning over quickly enough it can cause your toilet to clog
