Tap Leaks & Repairs

Leaking taps can be frustrating, from a light drip to a stronger, persistent flow. Finding the cause of the leak can also be annoying.

In need of a tap replacement or repair?

7 Reasons Why Your Tap Might Be Leaking

Here’s 7 reasons why your tap might be leaking;

  • Tap washer – this is the most common cause of tap leaks. Over time the tap washer can corrode and get damaged. It could have been installed incorrectly in the first place.
  • Tap O Ring – this ring is usually made of rubber, neoprene or silicon and is used in the tap handle to create a waterproof seal. If this comes loose or gets damaged it will cause leaking near the tap handle
  • The valve seat – this can get damaged by mineral build up or wear and tear over time.
  • Loose parts – it might be the tap leaks because the parts within the tap are loose. Try tightening them. If the problem persists, replace them. If the leak is still happening, give us a call
  • Pipe issues – damaged pipes, corrosion or cracks from tree roots can cause water pressure to fluctuate. Although not common, this could lead to occasional drips. If you suspect pipe issues, look for other tell-tale signs like strange smells and unusually coloured water
  • Tap type –There are several different types of tap mechanisms and some tap types are more prone to leaking than others
  • Water pressure – excessive water pressure could be the cause of that leaky tap. High water pressure restricts water from effectively flowing to and from its destination. This causes pipes to be backed up with water. The water then tries to find its way out of the pipes, leading to leaks from your taps
