6 Reasons For Burst or Leaking Pipes

Water pipes can burst for a few different reasons, here are 6 of the most common reasons we’ve found:

  1. Blockages
  2. Freezing
  3. High water pressure
  4. Poor installation
  5. Tree roots
  6. Weakened pipes

One of the most common causes of burst pipes are the growth of tree roots; trees use their roots to stabilise them as they grow. Tree roots are long and can span well under the surface of the soil, often far enough to grow right into one of your pipes

Leaking Pipe Repair

Another common reason is weakened pipes, this is caused my corrosion over time, which thins the pipes. This can result in either the pipes or the connection bursting, even under normal water pressure and conditions.

Excessive water pressure can cause stress on your plumbing leading to leaks and bursts. If you hear banging from your pipes it is a sure sign that the water pressure from the supplier to your house is too high. Similarly, freezing temperatures can cause burst pipes, as the water inside them freezes and expands, creating extra pressure within the pipes.
